  • The Scarpetta series by Patricia Cornwell
The series follows Cheif Medical Examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta and her partner Pete Marino. A really engrossing series; quite detailed and accurate. Often reading about fairly gruesome subject matter (autopsy, death, murder, crime scenes, etc.), so if you’re sensitive to this type of story, it might not be up your alley. The author herself was also a Chief Medical Examiner, and therefore adds a lot of accurate and detailed description to her book. Makes for a great, but very descriptive (read gory at times) read.
  • The Jefferson Tatye Genealogical Mystery series by Steve Robinson
This was a surprisingly AMAZING series that my mom recommended. Another great Kindle Unlimited find! The unique thing about this series is that the main character is a historian/genealogist and the mysteries he solves are in the past. Honestly, I wasn’t overly convinced by that synopsis when I heard it, but was quickly hooked when I started reading book one, In the Blood. Highly recommend if you’re a fan of mysteries and/or history. There are five so far, with a sixth coming sometime around May 2017.

  • The Heiress of Linn Hagh (The Detective Lavender Mysteries Book 1) by Karen Charleton
  • The In Death series by J.D. Robb
If you want to read this series, be prepared to be busy for quite a while. The first of J.D. Robb’s 43 book series (#44 coming out February 2017) starts with Naked in Death. This futuristic series is about Lieutenant Eve Dallas and her many crime cases. And her hunky hubby, the mysterious Irish billionaire only named Roarke. Did I mention that J.D. Robb is also  romance writer Nora Roberts? If you like mysteries and romance, you’ll love this whole series.

  • Robin Cook (medical thrillers)
  • Kathy Reichs (medical thriller, author of the Temperance Brennan novel series and Fox TV show, Bones)
  • James Patterson (crime thriller; Alex Cross series)
  • Clive Cussler (nautical mystery/adventure; Dirk Pitt series, NUMA files, Kurt Austin series)
